Things we do make education work for the kids and their families
I'd love to be sitting in my kayak admiring the skirt of a
bald cyprus in South Carolina again.
So, we come in before 7:15, go to morning duty and have a half hope of getting home by 8:30 this evening.
We have the International Dinner tonight that needs our attention.Net result was I had to go home and take something for it and sit with the heating pad. I did go home before 8:00. I would much rather have stayed at school. That dinner looked like it was going to be fun. Besides, I feel left out. Everyone else was staying.
The families or our students are from 153 nations. The staff is from a wide variety of countries as well, but nothing like that. I'm always amazed at how they got from there to here. The stores of their passages are astounding and touching.
Celebrating our diversity is really essential because so many of the people feel left out and almost stranded in the sea of people and their voices in the DC area. That an elementary school would have the diversity we have speaks to the customs, languages, and histories of people and their native communities be their Silver Spring or Pagopago.
